During the Earth Hour the electricity consumption in the unified power system (UPS) of Kazakhstan increased to 113 megawatt (MW).
According to the system operator of the UPS of Kazakhstan the overall electricity consumption was 10,987 MW at 8.30 p.m. (Astana time) on 31 March 2012.
Within half of an hour this figure increased to 11,203 MW and at the time of completion of the event at 8.30 p.m. it decreased to 11,100 MW.
It should be noted that the time selected for the global event concurred with peak electricity consumption which is largely dependent on weather factors.
According to the measurements made by national dispatch center of the system operator (NDC SO) during the Earth Hour the electricity consumption decreased only in 5 oblasts - Almaty (74 MW), South Kazakhstan (34 MW), East Kazakhstan (18 MW) Mangystau (5 MW), and Zhambyl (1 MW).
A significant increase in electricity consumption was observed in Pavlodar power region (+92 MW), Kostanai oblast (+40 MW), and Aktobe oblast (+28 MW).
During the Earth Hour in 2011 electricity consumption in the UPS of Kazakhstan has insignificantly decreased by 12 MW or to 11,048 MW.
