KEGOC held an international conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the foundation and the exhibition 'Astana Expo-2017'


On 14 July 2017 the international conference 'Development of Electric Power Systems - Problems and Prospects' was held in Astana. The conference organizer - KEGOC held it in conjunction with the global trend 'Energy of the Future' which became known worldwide thanks to the international exhibition 'Astana EXPO-2017' taking place in Astana and the company's 20th anniversary.

Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ministries and departments, NWF Samruk-Kazyna and its subsidiaries, sectoral electric power organizations and large power companies and scientists from leading universities of Kazakhstan took part in the conference. Furthermore, representatives of grid companies from 26 foreign countries including TEPCO, NJK (Japan), State Grid Corporation of China (China), Fingrid (Finland), TEIAS (Turkey), TERNA (Italy), 50Hertz (Germany) and APS Energia (Poland) arrived to Astana to join the conference. The conference was also attended by representatives of leading financial development institutions: EBRD, IBRD and the Asian Development Bank.

When opening the plenary session, Bakytzhan Kazhiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of KEGOC, noted that KEGOC, which marked 20 years, has come a long way: completed the large-scale modernization of the National Power Grid, constructed more than three thousand kilometres of 500-220 kV transmission lines ensuring the reliable operation of UPS of Kazakhstan as part of the power interconnection of the CIS countries.

To date, KEGOC is a backbone organization in the electric power industry of Kazakhstan, and at the same time a mature modern electric power company with the latest equipment and highly qualified personnel trained in the leading sector training centres in Europe.

Still the company's team continues to train and evolve, study the world experience of developing the electric power industry in new and rapidly changing environment.

CEO of KEGOC identified some areas in which the power industry appears to be developing in the long term:

- development of renewable energy, improvement of energy efficiency of electricity production and consumption;

- power industry intellectualization;

- international integration of electric power systems.

Participants of the event exchanged the information on the development of electric power systems, summarized practical experience in the field of renewable energy sources, and discussed the problems and prospects for the use of new equipment and technologies.

The conference also held round tables to discuss the best world practices in the management and development of the electric power industry, topical issues of the development of renewable energy sources with domestic and foreign grid companies.
