Emergency outages in Stepnogorsk Power System on February 10, 2024

On February 10, 2024, at 1:22 p.m. (Astana time), the 220 kV power transmission line of KEGOC, L-2671 Makinsk - Stepnaya, experienced an emergency disconnection due to unfavorable weather conditions.

At 1:27 p.m., a second 220 kV power transmission line of KEGOC, L-2661 Stepnaya-TsGPP, was disconnected during switching operations at the 220 kV Stepnaya substation. This resulted in the de-energization of the Stepnogorsk power system, leading to necessary load shedding and the shutdown of the Stepnogorsk CHPP, causing a disruption in the heat supply.

Operational personnel of KEGOC took immediate measures to quickly restore power supply to the power system through regional networks. At 3:25 p.m., voltage was successfully applied to the Stepnogorsk CHPP, enabling conditions for its normal operation to resume. Power supply to consumers of the power system was partially restored. At 4:16 p.m., voltage was applied to the Stepnaya substation, allowing the power supply to all disconnected consumers to be fully restored.

KEGOC JSC emergency crews have been dispatched to 220 kV power transmission lines L-2671 Makinsk - Stepnaya and L-2661 Stepnaya-TsGPP.

Personnel at the Stepnogorsk CHPP have initiated commissioning operations to restore heat and electricity supply.
