On 20 November 2020 at 4:47 pm Moscow time, several 500 kV lines of the North-South transmission of Kazakhstan were disconnected by emergency automation. The amount of load shedding in zone South of the Unified Power System (UPS) of Kazakhstan, covering six southern regions of the country, was 871.9 MW.

According to the National Dispatch Centre (NDC), the branch of KEGOC JSC, this happened because of the consumers in the Uzbek energy system.

KEGOC’s personnel promptly neutralized the emergency in less than 15 minutes, and at 17.02, zone South of the UPS of Kazakhstan and the United Energy System of Central Asia were synchronized with the UPS.

At 17.10 all affected consumers were re-connected.
