KEGOC publishes financial results report for 9 months 2024
The volume of electricity production in Kazakhstan for the reporting period amounted to 86.7 billion kWh. Compared to the same period in 2023, production increased by 4.2 billion kW or 5.1%. Consumption amounted to 87.7 billion kWh, which is 3.3 billion kWh or 4% higher than the same period in 2023.
The increase in consumption in the country for individual energy zones of the unified power system of Kazakhstan was distributed as follows:
‒ 10.4% for Western zone (West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, and Mangystau regions);
‒ 4.3% for Southern zone (Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Turkestan, Kyzylorda regions);
‒ 2.4% for Northern zone (Ulytau, Karaganda, Akmola, Pavlodar, Kostanay, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, and Abay regions).
The volume of services for the transmission of electric energy via the national power grid (NPG) amounted to 13.4 billion kWh, this is 57% lower than the 2023 figures, which is due to a decrease in the volume of electricity transmission for wholesale market entities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, after the introduction of a new model of the single purchaser of electric energy and a new service for the use of the NPG.
The volume of services for using the NPG amounted to 54.8 billion kWh.
Also, with the increase in production and consumption of electricity in Kazakhstan, the volumes of technical dispatching and balancing organization increased by 3.9% and 2.7% compared to 2023, reaching 81.4 billion kWh And 155.1 billion kWh respectively.
At the same time, there has been a significant reduction in electricity imports from Russia. In the period from 1 March to 30 September, 2024, imports amounted to 2,562.3 million kWh, which is 740.2 million kWh less than the same period in 2023 (3,302.5 million kWh).
Electricity imports were mainly used to cover the deficit during scheduled maintenance of generating power plants and were not related to the shift in time zones in March of the current year.
In 2024, the failure rate at power plants in Kazakhstan decreased by 13% compared to last year, and the duration of emergency repairs decreased by 35%. Nevertheless, outages at power plants persist, leading to an increase in the volume of imbalances covered through the balancing market of the Russia. The average weighted price of purchased electricity from the Russia in 2024 increased by 10% compared to 2023.
In this regard, the expenses of KEGOC for the purchase of electricity from the Russia in order to regulate imbalances in the energy system of Kazakhstan on the border with the energy system of Russia increased.
The increase in the volume of services provided by the company was reflected in the growth financial indicators. The company's operating profit for the reporting period amounted to KZT 59 billion, growth was 59%, net profit was KZT 47 billion, which is to KZT18.4 billion or 64% higher than the same period in 2023.
As part of the annual preparation for the heating season, the company repaired 122 power grid facilities, replenished the emergency stock of materials and spare parts necessary for servicing the company's assets. On 3 October, 2024 the Committee for Nuclear and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued KEGOC a certificate of readiness for operation in 2024- 2025 autumn-winter period.
