Emergency automation avoided a cascading power outage in the south of the country

On 9 August 2021, at 18:37, a strong wind with a dust storm in the eastern part of Kazakhstan caused e 500 kV Semey - Aktogay overhead line to be shut down by the protective relay operation.
To prevent cascading of the accident, a special automatic load shedding system has engaged.
At 18:56, the power grid rolled back to its original operation scheme. Electricity supply to consumers was fully restored.
