A new 220 kV Ortalyk substation has been put into operation near the city of Turkestan. The substation was constructed as part of ‘Turkestan External Power Supply Reinforcement. Construction of power grid facilities’ project of KEGOC with a total cost of KZT 9.93 billion funded from the company's equity funds.

The solemn ceremony was attended by Bolat Akchulakov, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Almassadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Management Board of Samruk-Kazyna, Umirzak Shukeyev, Akim of Turkestan Oblast, Kanysh Moldabayev, Chairman of Management Board of KEGOC, as well as representatives of contractors and local executive bodies.

The project includes 220 kV and 110 kV outdoor switchgears, 10 kV indoor switchgear, substation control premises, a firefighting pump station, auxiliary buildings (garage, checkpoint), an access road, and the reconstruction of Shymkent-500 - GNPS 220 kV and GNPS - Kentau overhead transmission lines. The nominal capacity of the substation is 250 MVA.

The substation was constructed to address the projected significant increase in electricity consumption in the Turkestan power region.

“The new substation will become an additional power supply centre for the Turkestan power hub. This creates conditions for the development of the local electricity distribution network and provides the necessary capacity for the regional network,” said Kanysh Moldabayev, CEO of KEGOC.

Umirzak Shukeyev, Oblast Akim, noted that the project also had a social effect. The construction process engaged 114 jobs, and the operation will permanently engage 10 people at the substation. In addition, domestic materials and equipment were used in the implementation of the project.
