KEGOC received the 2023 Green Finance Awards

KEGOC received an award in the category “Largest Non-Financial Corporate Green Bond” for the largest issue of green bonds in 2022 at the Green Finance Awards 2023 ceremony, which took place on June 7, 2023, at the Astana Finance Days conference.

The company’s efforts to finance the shift to a green economy and the responsible use of natural resources were highly commended by this award. KEGOC has issued green bonds twice since December 2022 for a total placement volume of 33 billion tenge. The money was utilised to create the facilities for the business’ investment projects: “Rehabilitation of 220-500 kV OHTLs at KEGOC’s Branches” and “West Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Reinforcement Project”.

Rehabilitating overhead power lines would maintain the continuous operation of electric networks, optimise the amount of money consumers spend on electricity, and boost the effectiveness of KEGOC operations. In addition, Zone West of the Kazakhstan Unified Power System will have more reliable power supply as a result of the building of new power grid facilities.

The Green Finance Awards winners are selected every two years. This year’s awards recognise organisations that have contributed to the development of a sustainable finance market in 2021–2022, particularly in Central Asia, Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Mongolia.
