KEGOC took the first place among the portfolio companies of Samruk-Kazyna JSC for achievements in industrial safety in 2023.
The award was presented during a meeting on the 2023 operational safety performance.
Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, emphasized that ensuring industrial safety and maintaining zero tolerance for non-compliance with labour protection measures are top priorities for the Fund's entire structure.
- At the Fund Group, safety processes have long gone beyond mere compliance with health and safety standards. We have elevated safety to our highest principle, creating a genuine safety culture within our companies that guides the behaviour of everyone involved. KEGOC, whose work involves a high degree of risk, stands as a shining example of this commitment," Zhakupov said.
KEGOC has built an effective system in the field of occupational health and safety, which represents a comprehensive approach to ensuring safe working conditions. This encompasses both the implementation and control of necessary safety rules and regulations, and the personal commitment of managers in the field of Health & Safety.
"The highest value for KEGOC is and always has been its employees, their safety and health. Therefore, in 2022, the heads of all operational branches of the Company signed personal Health & Safety commitments. These empower each KEGOC employee with the right to stop work if unsafe conditions are detected," said Nabi Aitzhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of KEGOC.
KEGOC is a member of the "Vision Zero" movement, whose principles include "zero tolerance" to safety violations, continuous improvement of personal safety systems, and implementation of the world's best practices in the field of labour protection. The Company employs 3,935 employees, including 61 Health & Safety employees or 64 employees per one Health & Safety employee.
The effectiveness of the system approach in the company is evidenced by the results of 2023. The company reduced the Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) by 3 times, and the Fatality Accident Rate (FAR) decreased to zero. Based on the results of safety audits, the number of identified hazardous activities decreased by 23% and the number of identified hazardous conditions decreased by 20%.
The indicator for traffic rules violations decreased by 57%. No road traffic accidents were recorded during 2023, and the company has operated without fires or industrial fires for the past 15 years.
The company also pays special attention to environmental protection and care. For example, SCOPE 1 pollutant emissions were reduced 7 times in 2023, and the company planted green areas of 6,500 square meters (21,000 square meters in the last three years).
In order to improve safety culture at work, in addition to standard procedures, KEGOC and its branches annually organize safety days, competitions for the best branch in terms of labour safety compliance, and other motivational activities. The Company imposes high safety compliance requirements on suppliers and contractors.
