Work Proceeding as Scheduled: Head of KEGOC Chairs Meeting on South Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Reinforcement Project
Nabi Aytzhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of KEGOC, held a working meeting regarding the implementation of South Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Reinforcement Project. During the meeting, he reviewed the current progress of construction and the execution of work at the project sites.
The project is designed to improve the reliability of the power supply to the country's southern regions and enhance the transfer capacity of Kazakhstan’s Unified Power System. Its completion will increase the capacity of the North-South transit along the "Almaty – Zhambyl" route by 440 MW. Additionally, it will create the necessary infrastructure to integrate planned gas-fired generation and renewable energy sources into the grid. The project includes the construction of two 500 kV power lines with a total length of approximately 475 km.
The project is being implemented as part of the National Project for Modernization of the Energy and Utility Sectors and is under special supervision. In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the implementation timeline has been accelerated. The commissioning of the facility is scheduled for July 1, 2027, which is six months ahead of the original deadline. To ensure this accelerated schedule, a comprehensive set of measures is being taken to speed up all stages of work, including the early delivery of equipment and the optimization of construction and installation timelines. Currently, the project is tracking ahead of the approved schedule.
Active construction and installation work is currently underway at all project sites. For all three substations, the delivery of primary materials has been fully secured. The 500 kV switchgear equipment has been delivered in full, and commissioning work is currently in progress.
In parallel, work continues on the transmission line component of the project. For the "Shu – Zhambyl" and "Zhambyl – Shymkent" power lines, materials are being delivered to construction sites, and work is being carried out on tower foundations and other planned activities. All work is being performed in accordance with the accelerated production schedule.
During the meeting, the CEO of KEGOC emphasized the necessity of unconditional compliance with deadlines and quality requirements. Priority tasks were set for contractors to ensure coordinated actions, timely completion of construction, installation, and commissioning activities, and strict fulfillment of local content obligations.
KEGOC will continue systematic monitoring of the project's progress, given its strategic importance for the sustainable development of the power system and the reliable electricity supply to the southern regions of Kazakhstan.
