GENNADIY SHAIMUKHAMETOV

Gennadiy Shaimukhametov was born on 20 October 1923 in a large family (with eight children) of a railroad man (his father was a track walker) in Kyshtyma town, Chelyabinsk oblast. In 1939, when he was 16 years old, he began to work at the Kyshtymskiye RES in ChelyabEnergo company as wireman trainee.

In 1941, he was called up for service in the Red Soviet Army and in January was sent to the front with a separate ski regiment. He served for the 4th reconnaissance troop. On 11 April 1942, he was seriously wounded and was under medical treatment in four cities: Tula, Ryazan, Saratov, and in Kokyanchak city of Jalalabad oblast (Kyrgyz SSR). In the end of August 1942, after medical examination (where he was pronounced unfit for general service) he was declared disable with the 3rd disability category for six months, and was sent home. After declaration of his disability he was refused to be hired for the job, because the work was not easy that time;the former employer did not want to hire him as well.Military commissar assisted in his employment at the Kyshtym refractory plant where he worked as a tool-worker in the carpenter shop. This happened in February 1942. The plant had a garage and few old engines which were rejected from the front line and two drivers who were also out of health. His thirst for engines leaded him to the work in the garage where one month later he became a driver without a driving license.

In 1944, he got his driving license without any examination. In 1947, the garage and all its personnel were transferred to the balance of Mechanical Department. Thus, he returned to his former job with ChelyabEnergo as a driver. There he worked at the tankette T-7 ‘Amfibiya’. In 1948, he got the new engine ZIS-5, which he transported from Miass machine engineering plant. At the same time he underwent training and became driver-engineer. In 1951, he was sent to the town of Verkhny Ufaley where he worked at the same position for ten years. In 1961, he was invited to join Sarbaiskiye RES,a newely established organisation headed by B. Nesterov in Kostanai oblast. There he worked on ZIL-157 engine, sometimes as a wireman, he had category 4 and access to all types of works. In the last few years before his retirement he drove platform trucks to Omsk city to work at the construction of 500 kV OHTL Omsk-Petropavlovsk. In 1983, he retired.
