The Company's primary priorities are employee occupational health and safety. The Company is continually working to develop safe working conditions, prevent injuries during technological operations, improve operational and sanitary and living conditions, and mitigate the influence of hazardous and unfavourable elements.
The Company has a Health and Safety Management System that covers the activities of all of the Company's business units and subsidiaries, with the goal of ensuring the effectiveness and improvement of health and safety performance, as well as managing the relevant risks associated with the Company's specific nature of business. Every year, a safety and health programme is developed that specifies the tasks, costs, and timelines for their implementation. The Company has successfully implemented and passed certification for compliance with the international standard ISO 45001:2018.
Every year, workplaces are identified and assessed, a risk register and a list of significant health and safety risks is compiled and risk mitigation measures are developed based on the results of the assessment.
The results of hazard and risk assessment and analysis are input data for the development of targets and planning indicators. One key risk for the Company is workplace accidents. To minimize this risk, the following activities were conducted in 2023:
Prior to admission to work, employees are trained in safe working practices, workplace internship, initial qualification check, control training, duplication in the workplace, carried out under the supervision of the person responsible for training.
Mandatory pre-shift medical examination of employees engaged in heavy work, work in harmful and (or) hazardous working conditions, pre-trip and post-trip medical examination of drivers is carried out. Also, annual medical examinations of operational personnel are carried out to determine their health status.
KEGOC uses LTIFR to assess safety of working conditions at KEGOC.
The Company is responsible for the safety of contractors and their employees who work at KEGOC sites. KEGOC’s contracts with contractors must include commitments to fully comply with the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan and KEGOC internal documents on occupational health and safety. Kick-off meetings with contractor representatives must be arranged prior to the start of work. Employees shall be admitted to work at a workplace. All contractors' personnel shall be briefed before being admitted to the workplace. In case of daily admittance, a target briefing shall be held and shall specify safety measures, dangerous and destructive operational impacts present at the Company's facilities. KEGOC exercises internal control over contractor personnel's compliance with the requirements of legal acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan and KEGOC's internal documents when performing works and services at the Company's operational facilities, and assesses contractor's occupational health and safety performance. KEGOC's health and safety management system covers all contractors' personnel (100%) who work at the Company's facilities.
